Keller is looking for an experienced Project Accountant based out of our Hanover, MD location. 

Responsibilities

 Responsibilities include:

  • Project Cost Control & Financial Management

    • Apply earned value methodologies in accordance with IFRS 15 to measure project performance, cost efficiency, and profitability.
    • Assist Project Managers in validating Cost-to-Complete (CTC) and Estimate at Completion (EAC) forecasts.
    • Analyze project cost, schedule, and revenue assumptions and identify inconsistencies for discussion with Project Management.
    • Review assumptions and identify inconsistencies across cost, schedule, and revenue projections.
    • Monitor project costs, budgets, commitments, and financial performance throughout the project lifecycle.

    Forecasting, Cash Flow & Performance Analysis

    • Provide project financial reporting, variance analysis, cash flow forecasting and analysis, and cost insights to support monthly project forecasts prepared in collaboration with the Project Manager and VP of Finance.
    • Identify financial risks and opportunities that may impact project margins, profitability, and cash flow.
    • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to Project Managers and Finance leadership to support informed business decisions.

    Contract & Commercial Support

    • Review contracts, change orders, claims, and contract modifications to assess financial impacts, ensure compliance with contractual and revenue recognition requirements, and support commercial decision-making.

    General Accounting & Month-End Close

    • Support month-end and year-end close activities, including account reconciliations and audit requirements.
    • Prepare and post journal entries and reconcile general ledger, project, and balance sheet accounts in support of the monthly close process.
    • Analyze indirect job costs, equipment costs, shop costs, general and administrative expenses, and other operating results, identifying significant variances and trends.
    • Support internal and external financial reporting requirements.

    Financial Controls & Compliance

    • Review invoices, purchase orders, contracts, payroll allocations, and project transactions for completeness and accuracy.
    • Monitor compliance with company accounting policies, financial procedures, and regulatory requirements while identifying control deficiencies and recommending corrective actions.
    • Maintain complete and audit-ready documentation supporting significant project financial positions, estimates, and accounting judgments.
    • Assist with internal and external audit requests by gathering documentation, preparing schedules, and responding to information requests.
    • Identify process improvements, reporting enhancements, recurring errors, and control opportunities to improve efficiency and financial accuracy.

    Continuous Process Improvement

    • Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to enhance project financial controls, operational efficiency, and reporting accuracy.
    • Collaborate with Project Management, Operations, Procurement, and Finance to streamline workflows, improve data integrity, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

    Business Partnering

    • Build collaborative relationships with Project Management, Operations, Procurement, and Finance to support project execution, financial performance, and informed business decisions.
    • Perform other project accounting, financial analysis, reporting, and ad hoc duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualified Candidates should:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
    • CPA designation or active progress toward certification or Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) designation is a plus.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, engineering, project-based, industrial, or multi-location environments.
    • Experience with project accounting, job cost accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and monthly close processes.
    • Working knowledge of project accounting principles, IFRS, and revenue recognition requirements (including IFRS 15) preferred.
    • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, and financial analysis.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to quickly learn ERP systems, financial reporting tools, and workflow platforms.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with project teams, field personnel, leadership, vendors, and corporate departments.
    • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration across functional teams.
    • High attention to detail, sound judgment, confidentiality, and accountability when handling sensitive financial and business information.
    • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to operational excellence, continuous improvement, and responsive internal service.

Additional Information

 

Salary Range: $85,000-$105,000

 

Actual salary will be based on a variety of factors including relevant internal and external experience, knowledge, skills, scope of job, geographical location or other factors permitted by law
