Overview

The Concrete Superintendent at Moretrench is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and successful completion of concrete construction projects. This position requires extensive hands-on experience with foundation slabs, vertical walls, complex pile caps, containment structures, outfall and discharge structures, box culverts, and other specialized concrete work. The Concrete Superintendent works closely with the Project Manager and site leadership to coordinate labor, materials, and equiment while ensuring job site safety, quality control, and adherence to project specifications.

Responsibilities

  • The Concrete Superintendent must have extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with various concrete construction projects, including foundation slabs, vertical walls, ring walls and equipment containment structures, complex pile caps, outfall and discharge structures, box culverts, and uniform section mats (fabri-form).
  • Work at the direction of the Project Manager and other designated project leads.
  • Assure and maintain full job site safety responsibility for all workers in accordance with company safety policy and OSHA/MSHA requirements.
  • Read, understand, and interpret contract documents including drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedules and translate them to project execution and action in the field.
  • Lead and supervise daily activities of field labor, other employees, and subcontractors on site.
  • Schedule and coordinate daily job activities of the workforce, deliveries from vendors, and operation of construction equipment for maximum productivity.
  • Identify problems early and provide solutions to rectify those problems.
  • Ensure quality compliance with industry standards and the project documents.
  • Manage and report daily cost and production reports to the project manager, and to the accounting department, as directed by management.
  • Monitor project costs and productivity and adjust operations to meet project budgets throughout all stages of the project.
  • Address and resolve conflicts with coworkers, suppliers, and clients.
  • Overcome issues with changing and/or unforeseen field conditions.
  • Function as a field liaison between Moretrench and clients.
  • Participate in the training of new employees.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a concrete superintendent.
  • Strong familiarity reading plans, laying out of a project, concrete formwork, rebar placement, installation of anchor bolts, concrete pouring and finishing as well as other technical aspects related to the work.
  • Proven record of successful project execution and productivity.
  • Possesses excellent leadership skills and knowledge in all phases of concrete work with a strong knowledge of technical aspects related to concrete.
  • Self-starter who assumes leadership of and enjoys responsibility for employees and for project execution.
  • Able to carry out project activities with a minimal amount of supervision.
  • Able to recognize and adjust to changing project conditions, and direct/redirect efforts toward successful project completion.
  • Strong knowledge and appreciation of OSHA requirements, and a record of managing safe work sites. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with all levels of coworkers, employees, subcontractors, suppliers, and outside parties including owners and engineers.
  • Flexible, well-organized, detail oriented and able to manage multiple field activities.
  • Ability to safely perform physical duties associated with working onsite managing crews including but not limited to bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, handling, climbing into and out of, and around heavy equipmentAbility to work safely in a wide variety of climatic conditions and job site environments commonly found at Moretrench job sites.
  • A commitment to maintaining an orderly jobsite and keep up with necessary housekeeping.
  • Computer skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
